Donovan David Popham, born December 4, 1938, went home to join his late wife in heaven on May 29, 2026, at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully in his home in Prairie Hill, Texas.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, to Henry and Lillian Popham, Don was a cherished figure in his community, family, and to all who knew him. Don graduated from Milano High School in 1957 and later attended Tarleton State University, where he met the love of his life, Jean Marie Miller. The two were married on January 14, 1961, and shared an extraordinary, nearly 65-year marriage filled with laughter, companionship, and unwavering support right up until Jean’s passing on December 31, 2025.
After college, Don worked for several years as a draftsman before embarking on a 20-year career with the United States Postal Service. During that time, he also farmed and ran his own feed store in Mart, Texas. Don found joy in the simple beauty of working the land and had a special fondness for cows and horses. He was a humble and hardworking man. Known for his witty, flirty, and fun personality, Don had a gift for making people smile and feel at ease.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lillian Popham, and son, Steve Popham. He is survived by his cherished siblings: Joy Johnson, Lyndell Popham, Morris Popham, Mac Popham, Janice Dunsmoor, and Cheri McMaster; his son, Stuart Popham and wife, Juanita; daughter, Kathy Spillers and husband, Robbie; grandchildren, Greg and wife, Courtney, Weston and wife, Marissa, Kyle, and Brandon and fiancé, Skyler; and great-grandchildren, Bradley, Samantha, Hazel, Chandler, Carsen, Kevin, Breanah, Rhett, and soon-to-be Chesney. His family was the light of his life, bringing him immense joy and pride.
Enduring this time of sorrow, we find comfort in the memories of a life well-lived, and the knowledge that Don is reunited with the love of his life and his precious son. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who loved him, and his spirit will forever be a guiding light for his family.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026. Both will take place at Littlepage Funeral Home, located at 711 E. Texas Avenue, Mart, TX 76664. Immediately following the service, Don will be laid to rest at the Prairie Hill Cemetery in Prairie Hill, Texas next to the love of his life.
