Jean Marie Miller Popham, born September 26, 1941, went home to heaven on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025, at the age of 84. She passed away in her home in Prairie Hill, Texas.
Jean was born in Alamosa, Colorado, to Bruce and Marie Miller. Due to her father’s work building pipelines across the United States, the family moved often, eventually settling in Texas. Jean attended more than sixteen schools before graduating from high school, an experience that shaped her adaptability and resilience.
She later attended Tarleton State University, where she met the love of her life, Donovan David Popham. The two were married on January 14, 1961, and shared 64 devoted years together.
Jean worked as a bookkeeper and had a deep love for reading and cooking. Above all, her greatest joy came from caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly. She was steadfast in her faith and attended First United Methodist Church in Mart, Texas.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Bruce and Marie Miller; son, Steve Popham; and her brother, Jerry Miller.
She is survived by her loving husband, Don Popham; her brother, Jim Miller of Nocona, Texas; her son, Stuart Popham and wife Juanita of Mart; her daughter, Kathy Popham Spillers and husband Robbie of Mexia; and her grandchildren: Greg Garrett and wife Courtney, Weston Popham and wife Marissa, Kyle Garrett, and Brandon Popham and fiancée Skyler. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren—Bradley and Sammie Garrett; Hazel Garrett; Chandler and Carsen Popham; Breanah Boleman; Kevin Tatum—and a soon-to-arrive great-grandchild, Rhett Popham.
Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday January 10, 2026, followed by a funeral service at noon, both will take place at the First United Methodist Church in Mart, Texas. Immediately following the service, Jean will be laid to rest at the Prairie Hill Cemetery in Prairie Hill, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, a donation box to assist the family with funeral expenses will be available and presented to Don Popham upon commencement of the service.
