Paul Ray Pogue, 90, passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

He was born January 13, 1935 in Tulia, TX to James Lemuel Pogue and Fannie Lois Thompson Pogue.

Paul graduated from Tulia High School in 1952 and then attended Baylor University and graduated from there in 1956 wth a degree in Religion.

While attending Baylor, Paul met Sherrill Jan Sheffield on a blind date and they were married on August 13, 1955 and were married for 69 years.

Paul and Sherrill moved to Lubbock where Paul attended Texas Tech to further his education. He joined the United States Marine Corp in 1957 and trained in Quantico, Virginia where Paul and Sherrill welcomed their first child David in 1958. The family were stationed at the military base in 29 Palms, California and then Ft. Sill, Oklahoma to finish his military service. Paul was Honorably discharged from the USMC Reserves in 1968 as a Captain.

Paul and Sherrill moved and settled in Houston in 1960 and their daughter Sherri was born in 1961. He began working at Schneider Construction Company as a Estimator/Project Manager in 1960 and began his own construction company in 1979 and retired in 2000. Paul and Sherrill moved to Mart, TX in 1989.

Paul loved The Lord and and began teaching young married couples in 1972 at Tallowood Baptist Church and many of the couples have remained close friends. He was also a Deacon in the church and performed many weddings over the years. Paul continued to teach the scriptures at First Baptist in Mart, Tx.

Paul loved to fish with his Bass Club and camp with his family. Paul served as an Assistant Boy Scout Master for many years and enjoyed teaching and mentoring many young men. During the 70's and 80's Paul and Sherrill owned two farms where he loved to work with his cows.

After retirement, Paul worked assisting the ranching operation for Murray Watson and assisted at the Watson Feed Store in Mart, Tx. He loved to be outside working and was always ready to help anyone in the community. Paul loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Paul was loved by many and will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Sherrill Pogue of Mart; son and daughter in law, David and Tami Pogue of Katy; daughter and son in law, Sherri and David Byrd of Mart; grandchildren, Kirsten Woolf and husband Sean of Belton, and Kendall Pogue of Beaverton; and great granddaughters Sydney Emma Woolf and Violet Bee Pogue.
