Ruth Jean Spurlin of Mart, Texas, passed away peacefully in the place she always wanted to be at her home on Texas Avenue in Mart Texas on February 8 , 2026 at the age of 96.
Ruth had a passion for living and was a lifelong fan of many things. She loved football and was a die-hard Texas Tech Red Raider fan. Once she saw Patrick Mahomes play there, she followed him into the professional side and became a devout Kansas City Chiefs fan. She was a die-hard fan and watched every game religiously. Ruths other passions were Western themed Movies and TV shows, and her favorite performer was Elvis Presley.
Ruth was an accountant by trade and worked for firms in Waco and West Texas. She truly loved working at the grocery store her family founded in Mart, Texas called the Spurlin Superette.
Ruth spent her last years needing someone to care for her and this care was provided by many special people. One long-time friend of the family who worked tirelessly for both Ruth and Ginger was Margaret Taylor. She had been supporting the family for many years, and this was greatly appreciated by Ruth because she always knew she could count on Margaret any time day or night. There were so many others that touched her life and she certainly wanted you ladies to know she appreciated your assistance over the years
Ruth was always looking after other people she cared for both her mom and sister Ginger when they needed her most and she was most proud of the fact she helped them when they needed it most.
