Venia Rae Brown

Venia Rae Gooden Brown, 100, of Mart, Texas passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026 at Wesley Woods Healthcare Center in Waco, Texas.

Venia was born on June 11, 1925 in Seadrift, Texas to Rayshall and Jewel Gooden. She graduated from El Campo High School. She moved to Freeport, Texas where she met the love of her life, Conrad Brown. They married in 1943 and were married 66 years before he passed away. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother known for her cooking prowess, competitive spirit in dominoes, Skip-Bo, and marbles.

She was preceded in death by parents Rayshall and Jewel Gooden, husband Conrad Brown, granddaughter Hollee Muhl, sister Estelle Church, and brothers Stanley, Eldon, Cleo, and Lloyd Gooden.

She is survived by two sons Lowell J Brown, Gary Lynn Brown and wife Betty, daughter Connie Rae Busby and husband Roger. Grandchildren Honey Battles and husband Russell, Jason Brown and wife Judy, Brooke Busby, and Britton Busby. Nine great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren. Siblings Dorothy Dupnik, Joyce Booth, and Pat Cornett and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services to celebrate Venia’s life and legacy will be Tuesday, January 6, 2026. Visitation will start at 1:00 P.M. to be followed by the service at 2:00 P.M. at Littlepage Funeral Home in Mart, Texas. Burial will be at Mart Cemetery. Pall Bearers include Jason Brown, Jamie Brown, Russell Battles, Hunter Holt, Jordan Muhl, and Kirk Muhl.

The family would like to thank the Amedisys hospice nurses, nursing staff and physical therapist of Wesley Woods Healthcare who were like angels in their care for our loved-one. Venia loved all who cared for her. She stated several times, “I am getting wonderful care.” And last, but not least the Wesley Wood beautician, her granddaughter Honey and her husband Russell Battles for their support.
